Homicide Investigation Update

Release Date/Time: 10/8/2021 10:51 AM On 10-05-2021 at approximately 1:45 AM, officers responded top a ShotSpotter activation in the 200 block of Chaparral St. When they arrived, officers found Jonathan Maciel (19) suffering from a mortal gunshot wound. While responding to investigate the homicide an officer involved shooting occurred in the area of N. Main St at Chaparral St. A juvenile suspect (16) was wounded and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured. The juvenile suspect has been released from the hospital and transferred to juvenile hall where he has been booked on murder and firearm possession charges. The suspects identity is not being released due to his age. Salinas PD detective Hart is leading this homicide investigation.
