Community Service Officer (CSO) Melanie Coffin has been selected as the 2011 Salinas Police Department Civilian Employee of the Year. Melanie has been a Salinas Police Department CSO for 8 years. Melanie tested and was selected as a civilian Crime Scene Investigator (CSI). Melanie has been a CSI for 5 years and has been exposed to numerous very complex crime scenes, including homicides. Melanie continues to function as a CSI even though she has moved into the Investigations Division where she works in the Missing Person and Sex Registrant Unit.
Melanie has completed over 300 police reports, investigated hundreds of cold cases, ranging from missing persons to burglaries, wrote dozens of parking tickets, towed numerous vehicles and processed numerous crimes scenes. Her overall performance was invaluable. Melanie is always very professional and very well prepared. She treats everyone with dignity and respect. Melanie volunteers as an advisor for the Salinas Police Department Explorer Program. Melanie is a role model and a great asset to the program. Melanie's outstanding performance during the entire year of 2011 more than qualifies her to be honored as the Salinas Police Department's Civilian Employee of the Year for 2011.
