Officer Richard Lopez has been selected as the 2011 Salinas Police Department Officer of the Year. Rich has been a Salinas Police Officer for almost 9 years. Rich has worked as a patrol officer, a SUBA Officer (Salinas United Business Association) and was the PAL (Police Activities League) Director. Rich was recently selected for the newly formed CASP (Community Alliance for Safety and Peace) Unit. Rich is a pro-active Police Officer who is consistently above department average in self-initiated activity. Rich has perfected the ability to address quality of life issues for the citizens of Salinas. Rich is the consummate community services police officer. Rich realizes that no matter how minor an issue may seem, if it is important to a citizen, it is important to him. Rich builds trust with the community. Rich was a runner up Salinas Police Officer of the Year candidate in 2010. Rich's work ethic remains strong year after year. Rich is very tenacious. Rich absolutely understands the concept of Community Policing. He knows how vital it is that the Salinas Police Department and the community work together to make the City of Salinas a safer place to live and work. Rich works hard everyday with this goal in mind. Rich's daily work ethic is to be commended. Rich's exemplary performance during the entire year of 2011 more than qualifies him to be honored as the Salinas Police Department's Officer of the Year for 2011.
