Officers responded to an armed robbery at the La Vina Market located at 2165 N. Main St. The robbery was reported by witnesses outside the store who observed the robbery as it was occurring and called 911.
The investigation revealed two suspects dressed in black and wearing ski masks came into the business and robbed it at gunpoint. The suspects demanded money from the register as they pointed guns at the customers and employees. After they obtained an undisclosed amount of money, the suspects ran out the door.
One of the suspects was seen running into a nearby business, Shop-n-Save Market. This led to the initial belief that this business was also being robbed. Officers surrounded both businesses.
No suspects were located at the La Vina Market. A suspect who came out of the Shop-n-Save and he was taken into custody. Emanuel Martinez (20) was positively identified as one of the La Vina robbery suspects.
Violence Suppression Unit officers helped in conducting an area check for suspects and located a suspicious vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Gallant, with several individuals in it or around it.
As officers approached the group they stated making furtive movements and they appeared to be attempting to conceal unknown items. Further investigation located evidence which linked these individuals to the La Vina Market robbery. This included cash and a loaded firearm.
The three arrested were Anthony Lee Heilmann (23), Celeste Rodriguez (18) and Jonathan Quintero (23) who is on parole.
They were all transported to county jail on a variety of charges. Rodriguez, Martinez and Quintero face charges of robbery, conspiracy, gang enhancement and weapons charges. Heilmann was booked on possession of stolen property and violation of probation charges.
CHP officers assisted in this case and Monterey County Sheriffs deputies assisted in the investigation of a robbery at Radio Shack on E. Boronda Rd. which occured at approximately the same time.
