Release Date/Time: 7/3/2008 9:00 PM Police and Fire units went to the 500 block of Terrace regarding a parked van fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses said an 18 year old male had thrown firecrackers through the open driver's door window. The firecrackers went off and the van caught on fire. The owner of the van was contacted about the loss. Case turned over to the Fire Marshal. This underscores the reason for increased enforcement and presence that both the Salinas Fire Department and Salinas Police Department have been involved in regarding the possession and use of all fireworks in the City of Salinas. During the evening hours of July 4th police officers will be working directly with fire personnel on Fire trucks in the City in order to be a visible presence in the City as well as taking enforcement action as necessary. Hopefully, this additional staffing will have some impact on the possession and use of fireworks and help lessen the chance for injuries and fires. Release Authorized by: Tracy Molfino, Cmdr. |
