Incident: Assault / Battery on a Peace Officer with Injury

A 32 year old pregnant female was at a business near the intersection of Williams and Grandhaven when she was approached by Andy Pimentel, 24 years old.  The female did not know Pimentel, who upon getting closer to the female, clenched his fists and raised them above his shoulders as if he was going to strike her.  The female was able to escape to a strangers car, but was followed by Pimentel, who beat on the car windows, but not before the female could call police.  An officer was in the area when the call went out and observed Pimentel walking from the area.  The officer tried to detain Pimentel, but he ignored the officer's commands and continued walking.  The officer grabbed Pimentel, however he swung around and pushed the officer.  A second Salinas Police Officer arrived and observed Pimentel assault the first officer.  The arriving officer took Pimentel to the ground.  Pimentel, who weighs approximately 350 to 400 lbs fell on the officer's leg when he was being taken to the ground.   Pimentel was eventually taken into custody and lodged a the Monterey County Jail for assault and battery on a peace officer.  The injured Salinas Police Officer was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was admitted.
