Report #: 12-010228
Date: Thursday, 1/5/2012
Time: 8:21 PM
Location: Mae Ave. at Del Monte
Officers responded to several reports of shots fired in the above area. Upon arrival they found no victims but did locate numerous spent shell casings in the roadway. The casings were from two separate large caliber firearms. A house in the 1200 block of Del Monte Ave. and a car in front of that same residence were hit by gunfire. No one in the house was injured and the vehicle was unoccupied. A short time later, a gunshot victim showed up at a local hospital by private vehicle. He is a 28 year-old male and was identified as a documented gang member. The victim said he was riding his bike in the above area and heard several gunshots. He then realized he had been shot in the lower legs. He fled the area, jumping fences until he got home. Relatives then drove him to the hospital. He could not or would not provide any suspect information, claiming to only have heard the shots. His injuries are not life threatening. Witnesses at the scene saw vehicles and even other bicyclists in the area at the time of the incident but were unable to indicate if any of the vehicles or bicyclists were involved in the shooting. Case continues.
