On Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 1:09 pm, officers were dispatched to the area of the 1000 block of North Sanborn Road regarding a male with a gun. When officers arrived, they were directed towards two individuals standing in front of an apartment complex. Officers determined that one of the individuals was Saul Huazo (24), who was identified as attempting to rob two victims.
One of the victims, a 16 year-old, told officers that he was walking with his two relatives, victims ages 5 and 3, when Huazo approached them. Huazo ordered them into the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex. The 16 year-old initially said no and Huazo lifted up his shirt and revealed the butt of a gun. The 16 year-old did as Huazo demanded and walked into the parking lot with the children. Huazo demanded money and the victim told him he only had three dollars. Huazo told him he wanted more. The victim offered to go to his apartment to retrieve more money and Huazo told him to leave the children with him. The victim said that he would not do that and began walking away with the children with Huazo following. When the victim and children arrived at his apartment, he told his roommates what was transpiring and they called police.
Huazo fled across the street to another apartment complex and confronted another victim, 17 years-old. Huazo demanded money from him; the victim told him he had none. At this point, officers arrived and contacted both Huazo and the second victim.
The victims and witnesses identified Huazo. Officers located a replica handgun in an abandoned stroller in front of the apartment complex near where Huazo was standing. None of the victims were injured.
Huazo was booked at the Monterey County Jail for attempted robbery and kidnapping.
