Release Date/Time: 12/22/2011 3:45 PM The residents came home and found Mario Calderon (20) burglarizing their home. They chased him from the residence. While he was running he dropped stolen property from the residence and brandished a handgun at the victims to make good his escape. When the first officer in the area he spotted Calderon on Monte Bella. When the officer tried to contact Calderon he fled on foot with the officer in pursuit. Ultimately the officer cornered Calderon in the backyard/garage of 1555 Verona Ct. Calderon was partially concealed in the pedestrian doorway and would peek out at officer while the officer ordered Calderon to come out and show his hands. At one point Calderon reached toward his waistband. The officer took a position of cover and held Calderon at gunpoint until back up officers could arrive. Calderon finally came out of the garage and was arrested. Officers checked the garage and found a discarded loaded Springfield 9mm pistol. The pistol was stolen out of Santa Cruz. The victims positively identified Calderon and his pistol. The victim's property was recovered where Calderon had discarded it while being chased. Calderon was booked for burglary, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, Possession of Concealed Firearm and Brandishing a Firearm. Release Authorized by: Cmdr. Dave Shaw |
