Child Molest Update--Additional Charges
Release Date/Time: 3/20/2012 11:42 AM On March 14, 2012, Gilbert Olivares was arrested at Salinas High School for 8 counts of 288.3(a) PC, Contact with a Minor with Sexual Intent, 3 counts of 288(c) PC, Lewd Acts with a Child and 1 count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. After further investigation into the items seized during the search warrant at Olivares' home, detectives were able to locate 14 videos made by the Olivares in his office at Salinas High. The videos are of teenage students engaged in sexual activity with each other within Olivares' office, during school hours. It appears the videos were taken without the knowledge of the victim students and Olivares is not in the room at the time. We continue to work closely with Salinas High School to help identify any possible victims in these cases. Also found during the forensic search of Oliveras' computer were dozens of pictures and videos depicting child pornography. None of the pictures or videos appears to be locally produced and do not involve any children Olivares has had access to. The pornography is consistent with images downloaded from the Internet. We are still going through the evidence, which could take weeks to completely analyze. Based on the initial press release on 3/14/12, at least one additional victim has been identified. The victim described similar details as in the original charges against Oliveras on 3/14/12. There are others that have come forward but still need to be contacted. On March 19, 2012, an arrest warrant was obtained by detectives for Olivares based on the new information. Detectives attempted to locate Olivares but were unable to do so. Late in the afternoon Olivares' attorney called and arranged for Olivares to turn himself in at the Salinas Police Department. Olivares turned himself in at approximately 9:00 PM. He was booked at Monterey County Jail for 2 counts 288.3(a) PC, Contact with a Minor with Sexual Intent; 14 counts of 311.4(c) PC, Manufacturing of Child Pornography; several counts of 311.11(a) PC, Possession of Child Pornography. Detectives petitioned the court and received an increase in Olivares' bail to $1 Million. Detectives are asking anyone that may be a victim or witnessed any suspicious activity with Olivares to contact the Investigations Division at (831) 758-7226; or Detective Danny Warner at (831) 758-7129.
