DUI Checkpoint
Release Date/Time: 8/18/2011 7:50 AM The Salinas Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint this week to kick off the summer mobilization period of the Monterey County "Avoid the 18" coalition at an undisclosed location in the city of Salinas. The checkpoint will occur on Friday, August 19th during the evening hours. Traffic flowing through the checkpoint will be contacted by uniformed officers, who will be checking for alcohol and or drug-impaired drivers. The purpose of this checkpoint is to promote public safety; increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and to serve as a deterrent to potential impaired drivers. The checkpoint is part of the Monterey County "Avoid the 18" coalition, of which Salinas PD is the host agency. Funding for this checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
