Felony Cruelty to an Animal
Release Date/Time: 10/26/2012 8:40 PM Salinas Police Officers responded to the above location regarding a 911 hangup/welfare check. The call taker overheard a female state, "he's hurting the dog" as she was struggling with someone on the phone. Upon the arrival of the officers, the occupant of the apartment refused to open the door. A pass key was obtained. Upon entering the dwelling the officers discovered an approximate 12 lb. terrier mix dog hanging by its collar on the bedroom door handle. The dog was recently deceased. A 12 year old Hispanic male juvenile came out of the same bedroom and was detained by officers. He told officers, "I was mad at the dog so I killed it." He also said that he wanted to see the dog die. The male juvenile had absolutely no remorse for his behavior nor any previous criminal behavior.
