Incident: Felony DUI
Report #: 11-121363
Date: Saturday, 12/31/2011
Time: 1:29 AM
Location: N. Sanborn / Elkington

While dropping off friends after leaving a party in the Creekbridge area, Alejandro Hernandez (18) was driving southbound on N. Sanborn approaching the curve at Elkington when he lost control of his Honda Accord. His vehicle slid over the west curb, and onto the sidewalk hitting a tree and the soundwall. The vehicle then slid back into the roadway and struck the center median where one of his four passengers, a 15 year old female was ejected.   The female suffered serious head injuries and was unconscious.  She was transported to SVMH for the head trauma and possible internal bleeding. She was stabilized enough to be transported by ambulance to Stanford.  She is currenntly listed in stable condition.  The driver and other three passengers were not injured.

Due to the severity of the collision aftermath the Salinas Police Traffic Unit was called in to investigate.  Hernandez was found to be driving under the influence.   Hernandez was booked into the Monterey County Jail for felony DUI.  We were unable to confirm the females identity until this aftrenoon.  Her name is being withheld pending notification of her family.
