The three occupants / victims were all in an apartment which belonged to two of the victims. Three suspects, a 17 year old male, Javier Garcia Altamirando, 19yrs., and Jorge Flores Valdarama, 22 yrs., knocked at the back door. One of the victims answered the door at which time the suspects forced their way into the apartment. Valdarama was armed with a handgun and eventually two of the victims were tied up. One of the occupants, who was in the bathroom at the time the suspects entered, heard what was going on and escaped out of the bathroom window. During the robbery, Valdarama kicked one of the victims in the mouth and Altamirando attempted to rape one of the victims, however was stopped by one of the other subjects. The suspects stole various household items and fled the residence. The occupant that escaped went to a local business and reported the crime. Officers responded to the scene and while they were setting up a perimeter, witnesses alerted the officers to the suspect's direction of travel. Officers chased and captured Altamirando. Several officers conducted a search for the two outstanding subjects. Eventually both subjects were found hiding in the dumpster area. They were ordered to show themselves and refused. A diversionary device was deployed with no success, however Valdarama and 17 year old male eventually surrendered. The stolen items from the apartment were recovered. The two adult subjects were booked into the Monterey County Jail on numerous charges and the 17 year old male was lodged at the Monterey County Juvenile Hall.
