On December 16, 2009 at approximately 6:54 pm, Salinas Police Officers responded to the area of Cypress Street and Central Avenue for a report of a victim of a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Brian Beecher (18), to the rear of 525 Central Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. The victim was transported to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and later pronounced deceased.

 

Witnesses describe seeing two male suspects in dark clothing running from the area westbound toward Nacional Street. A vehicle was seen leaving the area that might be involved. The vehicle is described as a dark colored 4-door sedan, which left the area westbound on Archer Street.

The victim was not a Hartnell College student and was known to associate with gangs. This case is being investigated as gang related.
