Release Date/Time: 8/26/2010 6:41 PM On February 23, 2010, at approximately 2:30 pm, Guadalupe (Oscar) Oviedo, 35 years old, was in a confrontation with another male in the 400 blk of East Market St. During that confrontation, Oviedo was stabbed with a sharp object in the chest. Oviedo was transported by medical helicopter to a bay area hospital where he was being treated. On August 25, 2010, Oviedo, who had been in the bay area hospital since the incident, died from his injuries received in the stabbing. The Monterey County Coroner's Office will be making arrangements to bring Oviedo back to Monterey County to conduct an autopsy. This homicide is not considered to be gang related. The suspect in this homicide is described as a Hispanic male adult, 5'5” and 170 lbs. Both the suspect and Oviedo were transients from the area and may have known each other.
