Monterey County Probation Officers were preparing to contact one of their clients at an unrelated residence when they observed Abelardo Rodriguez (31) climb out of a second story window at the above address. Someone then threw a backpack to Rodriguez from within the apartment. Rodriguez jumped down and began running with probation in pursuit. When Salinas Police officers arrived they began looking for Rodriguez. Officers located him hiding and another foot pursuit began. Rodriguez was cornered at Gee and Rider. He struggled with officers, but was quickly sudbued and taken into custody. Officers located his backpack where he had discarded it. Officers located a replica pistol and a small amount of methamphetamine inside the backpack. Officers returned to the apartment Rodriguez had come out of, but were unable to locate person who threw the backpack to Rodriguez. They did learn that this apartment was actually Rodriguez' residence. It appears Rodriguez ran because he had absconded from parole and had a warrant issued for his arrest. Rodriguez was booked for the outstanding warrant, possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest and possession of a dangerous weapon.
