Press Releases
Release Date/Time: 12/2/2012 6:30 PM Officers responded to the 200 block of Towt Street for a report of a shooting and a vehicle into a house with suspects fleeing on foot. A 23 year-old male victim had given a male neighbor a ride to the Towt St. area from North Salinas. Unfortunately for the victim, he was unaware his neighbor considered him a rival gang member. As the vehicle arrived at the Towt St. location, the passenger exited the vehicle and pointed a handgun at the victim. He attempted to fire a few times, however, had forgotten to disengage the safety on the gun. The suspect, Robert Yancy, 33, removed the safety, fired at the victim, and struck him in the leg. As Yancy began to run across the street, the victim accelerated his vehicle and struck him. The suspect traveled on the hood of the vehicle a short distance until the vehicle struck a curb and then a nearby house. Yancy fell off the victim's vehicle and fled on foot. Arriving officers located him a short distance away. Officers also located the victim at a different location away from Towt St. Yancy was arrested and treated at the hospital for his injuries. He was later booked into the county jail on charges of attempted murder, gun violations, and violation of parole. Release Authorized by: Commander Henry Gomez |
