Strong Arm Robbery Arrest
Release Date/Time: 8/23/2011 11:42 AM With the assistance of the Monterey County Sheriff's Department, Korey Heess, 26 years old, was arrested for several felony charges. Heess was wanted on charges related to him stealing purses from three different victims between July 20th and August 9th in the city of Salinas. The crimes occurred at the 1500 block of Constitution and the 1500 and 1600 block of N. Main St. Two of the incidents involved Heess stealing womens' purses from their shopping carts. The third incident occurred when the purse was ripped from the victim's arms. At that point, Salinas Police Officers did not have Heess identified as a suspect. Eventually, one of the victims in this matter discovered a photograph of the suspect in her on-line photo folder. During the investigation, it was learned that the suspect had taken a photograph of himself, not knowing that the photograph was immediately transferred to the on-line photo folder belonging to the victim. With that photograph, the Salinas Police Department solicted the assistance of the local media and public in an attempt to identify the suspect. Within a hour, multiple anonymous reporting parties called the Salinas Police Department and identified the suspect as Korey Heess. During the late evening hours of August 20th, Salinas Police Officers requested that the Monterey County Sherriff's Department attempt to contact Heess at a residence on the 1100 block of River Rd. Upon arrival, Deputies arrested Heess and released him to Salinas Police Officers. Heess was booked in the Monterey County Jail for petty theft, grand theft, robbery, theft from an elder, and an outstanding warrant. The Salinas Police Department would like to thank the multiple anonymous callers who helped identify Heess. Release Authorized by: Cmdr Terry Gerhardstein |
