In August of 2010, under a grant program to assist local police agencies and local public departments, Target Inc. awarded a grant to the Salinas Police Department's Violence Suppression Unit in the amount of $1,500. The Violence Suppression Unit is responsible for proactively addressing the City of Salinas' gang violence issues as well as gather information regarding gangs within the city. The money awarded will help fund the team with some needed equipment and help fund training for its officers and training forums for those officers to teach the public about gang violence and prevention.

The Salinas Police Department's Violence Suppression Unit would like to thank Target Inc. for their support of the police department and the community in trying to make it a safer city.
