Release Date/Time: 12/28/2012 2:27 PM A 9-year old girl got a new bike and bicycle helmet for Christmas and was riding in the parking lot of her apartment complex. She rode into the street, directly in front of an on-coming vehicle. Angel Garcia (37) was driving his full-size Chevy Silverado at the speed limit and could not stop in time. Garcia struck the girl, who suffered a broken left leg. The impact was enough to break out the grill of the truck and the girl's head left a large dent in the hood. Fortunately, she was wearing the helmet, and after inspection, medical personnel said they believe the helmet saved the little girl from major head trauma. Officers from the Salinas Police Officers Association bought the girl a brand new bicycle and helmet and delivered them to her home. The driver was not cited.
