Officers were at the back of the police station when George Ruiz (Age 24) walked up. Ruiz was agitated and displayed symptoms of being under the influence. Ruiz tried to walk around officers and attempted to walk into the police station. Officers stopped Ruiz and asked him if he was using drugs, and he said yes. He then said he was not feeling well and was going to pass out. AMR was called to respond.
While waiting for mediacl personnel to arrive, Ruiz started reaching into his pockets and officers tried to take control of him to pat search him. Ruiz tightened up and tried to pull away. Ruiz then began kicking and struggling with the officers and he was eventually taken to the ground where he was handcuffed. Ruiz was also on parole and had prior arrests for being under the influence. Ruiz was transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment and then booked into the Monterey County Jail for being under the influence of narcotics, resisting arrest, and parole violation.
