Incident: Vehicle Theft, Vehicle Pursuit, Driving Under the Influence, Parole Violation, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Freeway
Date: Wednesday, 7/2/2008
Time: 2:22 AM
Location: North Salinas to US 101 & Arroyo Seco Rd.

Victim was at home in North Salinas when he heard his 2006 Nissan Armada drive away. The previous day, a set of car keys were stolen from a family member at 24 Hr. Fitness. The victim called 911 from his cell phone as he followed the vehicle on N. Main St. Sgt. Gomez spotted the vehicle going southbound on N. Main St. near Bernal. Mitchell Valdez, 24, entered the freeway and led officers on a pursuit at speeds which reached 110 miles an hour. After briefly exiting and re-entering the freeway in Chualar, Valdez exited on Alta St. in Gonzales. The pursuit was discontinued due to the high speeds in city limits. A few minutes later, Greenfield PD located the vehicle in their city. Valdez drove northbound in the southbound US 101 lanes until stopped by the deputies waiting for him at Arroyo Seco Rd. He was arrested and brought back to Salinas. Valdez was on parole and under the influence of meth. He was booked.  Good job by everyone involved.
